TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (MNA) – People in Tehran were surprised by hearing the staccato of firing mainly in central and southern parts of the city.
Around 17:00 Tehran local time, the noises were heard, but yet there was no sign of any plane flying over the heads of the public who had been taken by surprise. Sources however said that an air defense base located in the vicinity of Enghelab Sq. had been firing. No other comments had been presented for the event.
Unverified reports also said that a drone near the same locality had been targeted and downed.
UPDATE: According to latest information disclosed by security forces to Mehr News, the shootings targeted a drone flying in no-fly zone in central Tehran. The drone has been downed by the security forces.
UPDATE 2: In the latest update, Brig. Gen. Alireza Elhami, Deputy-Commander for Operations of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base provided assurances that no danger would hit the city; in a statement minutes ago, he told the media that an ultra-light helicam trespassed a no-fly zone in Tehran and immediately changed its route when the first staccato of the anti-aircraft fired.
